This chapter describes how the PreFetch Unit (PFU), in conjunction with the core, uses program flow prediction to locate branches in the instruction stream and the strategies used to determine if a branch is likely to be taken or not. It also describes the two architecturally-defined SVC functions the processor requires for backwards-compatibility with earlier architectures to flush the Prefetch Unit (PFU) buffers.
