B.1.1. Translation

Diagnostic messages produced by the compiler are of the form:

source-file, line-number: severity: error-code: explanation

where severity is one of:

Warning

This is a helpful message from the compiler relatingto a minor violation of the ANSI specification.

Error

This is a violation of the ANSI specification but the compiler is able to recover by guessing the intention.

Serious error

This is a violation of the ANSI specification and no recovery is possible because the intention is not clear.

Fatal error

This is an indication that the compiler limits have been exceeded, or that the compiler has detected an internal fault (for example, not enough memory).

error-code is a number identifying the error type.

explanation is a text description of the error.
