Terminology

In this book the following terms of the LISA language are used and have the following meaning:

TermDefinition
ComponentAn individual sub-system element such as core, memory, bus, or peripheral.
Internal portInternal ports communicate with subcomponents and are not visible if the component is used in a higher-level system. Unlike hidden external ports, they are permanently hidden.
External portA port that is used to connect the subsystem to other components within a higher-level system.
ConnectionA link between two components. The connection is made between a master port on one component and a slave port on the second component.
LabelAn annotation in a diagram. There is no processing or connections associated with a label.
Object

One of the following:

  • component

  • connection

  • external port

  • label.

OperationThe basic elements of LISA that describe pieces of the processor model. Each operation can consist of multiple sections such as composition, coding, syntax, and behavior.
BehaviorEach LISA operation or instruction can have multiple behavior sections. These sections describe the behavior code in C.
