The compilation tools use a temporary directory when processing files.
The environment variable name used to refer to this directory depends on the platform:
TMPon Windows platforms. If
TMPis not defined, or if it is set to the name of a directory that does not exist, temporary files are created in the current working directory.
TMPDIRon Red Hat Linux platforms. If
TMPDIRis not set, a default temporary directory, usually
/var/tmp, is used.
TMPDIR are typically set up by a system administrator. However, it is
permissible for you to change them.
