USING TRACE MEMORY WITH THE MONITOR

Applies to: uVision Debugger

Answer

Information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

In the older dScope Debugger, I could use trace memory with the monitor. This doesn't appear to be supported in the uVision V2.20 Debugger.

CAUSE

The trace memory feature requires that many bytes of data are transmitted from the monitor via the serial port. This slows execution speed to a few hundred instructions per second (instead of many millions). This causes monitor execution speed to be very slow when trace memory is enabled. In many cases, this is often mistaken for a broken application.

RESOLUTION

This feature is currently not supported in the uVision Debugger when using the target monitor. Note, however, that it is supported when using the simulator.
