QUESTION

I see that uVision offers a Flash menu and a Options - Utilities page. It seems that it is possible to program Flash devices with it. Is this available for my device and how can I use these features?

ANSWER

The Flash menu is a new feature of uVision that is useful with external Flash programming utilities or with specific AGDI debug drivers. Once the Flash Utility is configured you may use the commands from the Flash menu.

AGDI Debug Drivers

Flash programming is currently implemented in the following AGDI drivers that we are aware of:

External Flash Programming Utilities

µVision provides a command interface for external Flash Programming Utilities. These utilities are configured in the Utilities tab of the Options for Target dialog that opens with the Flash - Configure Flash Tools menu item. The following steps are required for configuration:

  1. Enable Use External Tool for Flash Programming.
  2. Under Command enter the filename of the external Flash Programming Utility.
  3. Under Arguments enter the parameters required to program the Flash device. You may use Key Sequences here to specify project parameters.

For example:

Command: C:PROGRAMSDOWNLOAD.EXE
Arguments: /F#H /X$X /P1 /H /D$D

For some devices like Atmel 89x51, Philips 89x51 or TI MSC121x, the parameters for the external Flash Download Utility are configured from the uVision Device Database.
