SYMPTOM

When I try to run a program that calls the Keil tools, such as a batch file or the uVision IDE, I receive the following error:

R206: NO REGISTRY ACCESS, ADMINISTRATION RIGHTS REQUIRED

but I am logged in with an Administrators account. What can cause this?

CAUSE

uVision requires administrator privileges to access license information. If you have User Account Control enabled in Windows Vista or Windows 7, and you log in as an Administrator, Windows Vista or Windows 7 also logs you in as a Standard User. Depending on how a program gets set up, Windows could run this using the Standard User login.

RESOLUTION

Whenever you run uVision or a batch file that calls the Keil tools, right click on the icon and select Run as Administrator from the context menu.

You may also get a similar message when attempting to enter a license for your Keil tools. In this case, you need to:

  1. Close uVision
  2. Right click the ┬ÁVision icon or the ┬ÁVision executable
  3. Select Run as Administrator from the context menu
  4. Open License Management and re-enter your LIC
