Why can't I add a custom device to the scan chain when using RVI 3.3?

Answer

There is an issue with RVConfig that disables the 'Add' button in the 'Add Device' dialog if you try to add a custom device to the scan chain. This is the workaround:

In the 'Add Device' dialog:

1) Click on 'Registered Devices'
2) Expand one of the categories, eg 'ARM7'
3) Select one of the devices, eg 'ARM710T', the 'Add' button should now
be enabled
4) Click 'Custom Device'
5) Edit the 'Device Name' and the 'IR Length' if you need to
6) Click 'Add'

Note that this issue is fixed in RVI 3.4.
