Example Linux distribution in DS-5 extracts with errors on Windows

Applies to: DS-5

Answer

SYMPTOMS

WinZip reports:

"The following invalid filename was encountered in the archive "...\built\xM\include\config\w1\con.h"."

Microsoft Extraction Wizard produces error dialog:

  "Failed to change the attributes."

and

  "Compressed (zipped) Folders Error"

and warning dialog:

  "Confirm File Replace"

CAUSE

This is due to "con" being a reserved name in Windows and other incompatibilities between Linux and Windows filesystems.

SOLUTION

For WinZip, ignore the error and continue unzipping (press OK rather than Cancel).

For Microsoft Extraction Wizard, answer 'No' to the error dialog as often as it appears. Answer 'Yes to All' to the warning dialog.

In both cases, the only file missing after unzipping will be con.h. As it is an empty (zero-length) file, its absence is unlikely to cause any problems. Alternatively, use WinRAR to extract the files instead.
