Device Server fails to read or write a file

Applies to: mbed Device Server

Answer

If the Device Server fails to read or write a file, you have most probably run the Device Server as a root. In that case, it creates files owned by the root that are not accessible to normal users.

Running software as a root is not good practice, and with the Device Server, there is no need for it.

To solve this problem, designate a normal user to it and always use that, never the root.
