DS87C520 VS 8051

Applies to: General Topics

Answer

QUESTION

I am in the process of deciding if the Dallas Semiconductor 87C520 is for me. What are the differences between the 520 and a standard 8051?

ANSWER

There are a number of differences between the 8051 and the 520. The primary differences are the execution speed (about 3x faster on the 520) and the extra serial port. Nonetheless, all 8051 code should run on the 520 without any changes.

You can get more information about the 520 from the datasheets from Dallas Semiconductor.
