Do Cortex-M7 and ETM-M7 support system stalling?

Applies to: Cortex-M7

Scenario

The ARM Embedded Trace Macrocell Architecture Specification ETMv4.0 to ETMv4.1 describes an optional capability for teh ETM to stall the processor as a means of preventing the trace buffer from overflowing.

Answer

Cortex-M7 does not support this capability. The ETM-M7's TCIDR3.SYSSTALL (bit[27]) reflects the SYSSTALL input signal of the ETM, which is driven LOW by the processor, so ETM stalling is not supported.
