Current requirement on power-up

Applies to: Multi-ICE

Answer

When the Multi-ICE is first powered up it will typically draw a larger current than normal to start its internal DC converter. This can be a problem if you are using a current-limiting power supply which has its limit set too low. If this is the case then Multi-ICE will not initialize correctly and will continue to draw current at whatever the limit is set to.

The current that Multi-ICE requires is dependant on the characteristics of the board and power supply being used. Currents of 400mA have been measured in a 3.3V system at start up.

New Multi-ICE units (hardware model number 83) can be powered from the target board or from an external power supply.
