What does the ARM720T do when the cache is not enabled?

Applies to: ARM720T

Answer

When the cache is disabled the ARM720T will still perform a cache lookup of the address output by the ARM7TDMI. If the cache contains valid data, it is still possible to have a cache hit.

If the MMU is disabled and you get a cache hit, this is typically a programming error. When the MMU is disabled it is usual to flush the cache immediately.

Every cache line is invalid after reset and so there will never be a cache hit in that case.
