What does DSM stand for?

Applies to: Processor Cores

Answer

DSM has stood for a couple of different things in the past. Originally it stood for Design Simulation Model. That was then changed to Design Sign-off Model. However, it has recently reverted back to the original designation. Whatever the acronym stands for, it has always denoted the class of models generated from a behavioural HDL description of the processor. In previous times ModelGen C was the target language for the translation created either by hand or using some proprietory tools. These days the functional core of most DSMs is a direct compilation of the HDL description, mostly into a SWIFT component.
