Do I need to connect nSRST to the 20-pin JTAG connector?

Answer

It is not strictly necessary to connect nSRST to the 20-pin JTAG connector, but we recommend it as explained in the "System Design Guidelines" chapters of the DSTREAM and RealView ICE user guides.

nSRST is used by DSTREAM / RVI to :

Reset the core from the debugger, and
Detection of target Reset occurring.

nSRST must be connected to enable AutoConfiguration of some processors.

If you don't connect the system reset to a pin of your ASIC, the functionality above will not be available. In this case, you should at least ensure that the system reset is pulsed low at power-up.
