Do I need to implement byte-write access on the ITCM?

Applies to: ARM926EJ-S, ARM946E-S, ARM966E-S, ARM968E-S

Answer

The Instruction Tightly Coupled Memory (ITCM) has to be implemented with byte (8-bits), half-word (16-bits) and word (32 bit) write functionality. Although the user may only require 32-bit accesses, the ARM debug tools rely on byte-writes to setup software interrupts. If byte writes are not supported the debug tools will not work.
