ARM Technical Support Knowledge Articles

On what platforms will my ARM development tools work?

Applies to: ARM Developer Suite (ADS), DS-5, DSTREAM, Multi-ICE, RealView Compilation Tools (RVCT) for BREW, RealView Developer Kit (RVDK) for OKI, RealView Developer Kit (RVDK) for ST, RealView Developer Kit for XScale (RVXDK), RealView Development Suite (RVDS), RealView ICE and Trace (RVI / RVT)

Answer

In general, ARM development tools will work on the Windows and Red Hat Linux platforms that were in common use at the time of development.  Testing will have been carried out on all of the supported platforms for that product.

Attempting to install or use ARM development tools on platforms released since the release of the tools may or may not be successful, although using closely related platforms (for example, a different service pack of a particular version of Windows) should be possible.  You are not prohibited from using the tools on unsupported platforms, but should you encounter any platform-specific issues, ARM Support would not be able to assist you.

The following is a list of common ARM development tools and the platforms on which they are officially supported.  Up to RVDS 3.1, ARM development tools are supported on 32-bit operating systems only, although RVDS 3.1 has also been tested on 64-bit Red Hat Linux machines. RVDS 4.0 and later are supported on both 32- and 64-bit versions of the listed operating systems, where available, with the exception of RealView ICE which does not support 64-bit versions of Linux nor installing 64-bit USB drivers on Windows Vista.

For supported platform information on products not listed here, please check your product's Installation Guide or contact your supplier.

Note: Windows Vista support was first added in RVCT 3.1 b700. For more information please see the FAQ: Is Windows Vista a supported platform for RVDS 3.1?
