Why is the Flash Memory on the on the static memory expansion board not working?

Applies to: Versatile Baseboards

Answer

Some new Pismo MirrorBit flash memory modules from Spansion have an incompatible EEPROM contents that prevent them being recognised on the Versatile Platform boards with a boot monitor older than version 2.0.2.  An upgrade for the boot monitor is available as a download here.

The new boards that may not work have the following marked on the silk screen of the PCB:
SPANSION--03-P-00015-REV1.2

The presence of the flash memory can be checked using the bootmonitor LIST AREAS command under the FLASH sub-menu.
