Why does image load fail when writing to flash?

Applies to: RealView Development Suite (RVDS)

Answer

A regression introduced in RVDS v2.2 (RVD v1.8 build 734) limits the size of ELF images to 64K when writing to flash. An attempt to write larger files results in the following error message from RVD: "Readback verify error in Program memory at <location>"

Only ELF image files are affected. As a workaround, you can convert your ELF image into a binary using the ARM fromelf utility:

      fromelf -bin image.axf -o binary.bin

The binary file can be written to flash using RVD’s “Upload/Download memory file” option from the Debug menu.

This behavior is fixed in RVDS v2.2.1 (RVD v1.8.1 build 464).
