Why does the installer/uninstaller repeatedly insist I reboot my machine?

Applies to: RealView Development Suite (RVDS), RealView ICE and Trace (RVI / RVT)

Answer

When installing or uninstalling RVDS or the RVI host software you may see a message like:

' Warning: Machine needs rebooting

The wizard has detected that files are scheduled for deletion upon reboot.  It is very likely that continuing without a reboot will leave the product installation in an inconsistent state.'

or

' Reboot Necessary

It has been detected that this computer needs rebooting for the wizard to continue. It is essential that you reboot before proceeding.'

If (no matter how many times) after rebooting and attempting to install/uninstall the tools, you see the same message reappear, you need to apply the set of steps from the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article, at:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;310335

After carefully following each step, you should then be able to install/uninstall your tools successfully.

If you continue to see the same message, please contact your tools supplier.
