What is the maximum baud rate achievable by the UART - the TRM says it's 460.8Kbits/s?

Applies to: PL011 UART

Answer

There is no practical limit to the baud rate that can be achieved in the UART PL011 providing you can supply a UARTCLK at the right frequency. Also, you may run UARTCLK at a slower frequency than PCLK if required.

The maximum baud rate is primarily determined by UARTCLK/16. The figure mentioned in the TRM of 460.8Kbits/s is derived from a UARTCLK of 7.3728MHz and was written when this was a reasonable clock rate.
