FATAL ERROR L251 (CODE SIZE LIMIT)

Applies to: L251 Linker/Locator

Answer

QUESTION

When I link my C251 program, I get the following linker error.

*** FATAL ERROR L250: CODE SIZE LIMIT IN RESTRICTED VERSION EXCEEDED
MODULE: C:PROJECTSGENIEAPPDISKCPU251.OBJ (------)
LIMIT: 03FFH BYTES

My 251 Utilities manual does not list this error, and I have no idea how to proceed. What should I do?

ANSWER

This error message is emitted by the L251 linker when it detects that the program being linked was compiled and assembled with the evaluation compiler and assembler.

If you purchased the complete C251 package, you may receive this error if you attempt to install the full kit over the top of the evaluation kit. Reinstall the C251 tools into a new directory and this problem will go away.

You may receive this error if the path settings in your environment (AUTOEXEC.BAT) include the evaluation tools directory before the full tools directory. If this is the case, remove the evaluation tools directory from the PATH statement and everything should work fine.

If neither of these suggestions solves the problem, contact our sales department for a set of replacement installation diskettes.
