OVERLAYABLE SEGMENTS AND MEMORY MODELS

QUESTION

C51 only overlays automatic variables declared in the default memory area (according to the memory model). For example, in the following code...

void foo(void)
{
    char data a;
    char xdata b;
...
}

C51 makes the variable a OVERLAYABLE in SMALL model but variable b is not OVERLAYABLE. In LARGE model, variable b is OVERLAYABLE but not variable a.

Is there a fix for this so that C51 overlays ALL automatics -- even those declared to be in a different memory space than the default?

ANSWER

There is no fix that solves this problem in the C51 V5.x tools. However, this feature has been added in C51 V6.x.
