QUESTION

How do I use a microcontroller with on-chip XDATA memory?

ANSWER

To use a chip that has on-chip XDATA memory, you must enable that memory (if it is disabled by default) in your startup code. Copy the STARTUP.A51 file from the LIB directory into your project directory and add the necessary code immediately after the STARTUP1 label.

This initialization is required for chips like the Dallas Semiconductor 87C520 that disable the on-chip XDATA on reset.
