When I try and run the example serial port programs in the MCB520 manual either the monitor appears to stop working or I get garbage out of Serial Port 0. Why?
The example programs are incorrect. They were written based on the assumption that the monitor uses Serial Port 0 and timer 2 for communications with dScope. This is incorrect. The monitor uses Serial Port 1 and timer 1. The examples all modify timer 1, which stops the monitor from working.
Modify the examples so they use timer 2. Then, communications between the PC and monitor will not be disrupted.
