What does "superseded", "withdrawn", "retired" mean?

Some documents describe older products, and are watermarked to show the status of the product:

These are product statuses, not document statuses. If you are using a previous version of a product then it is appropriate to use the documentation for that version, even though the documentation might be marked as superseded.

Withdrawn
This product has been withdrawn from general sale and might not be available for licensing. Support and Maintenance is available under a valid Support and Maintenance agreement. A Support agreement is still available for this product but a Maintenance agreement might not be available. There might be a later version or alternative product available. Please contact ARM for further details.
Retired
This product has been retired and is no longer available for licensing. Support and Maintenance is available under a valid Support and Maintenance agreement. New Maintenance agreements are not available. There might be a later version or alternative product available. Please contact ARM for further details.
Superseded
This product has been superseded by a later version of the product. This version might still be available for licensing. Support and Maintenance is available under a valid Support and Maintenance agreement. New Support and Maintenance agreements might still be available. Please contact ARM for further details.

When you search this site, these documents appear lower in the search results, beneath newer documents.
